Dr. Narayan Bhattarai is a professor of bioengineering at North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T), where he directs the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Laboratory and oversees the Undergraduate Bioengineering Program. He earned his M.S. degree in Chemistry from Tribhuvan University in 1997 and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Jeonbuk National University in 2003. Dr. Bhattarai continued his research journey as a postdoctoral researcher and instructor at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. In 2010, he joined NC A&T as a faculty member in the Department of Chemical, Biological, and Bioengineering. His research interests are centered around bio-nanomaterials, polymers, tissue engineering, and nanomedicine. Beyond his personal research, Dr. Bhattarai has mentored over 50 undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in their academic development and nurturing their passion for bioengineering. His research group has contributed over 100 peer-reviewed articles, 5 book chapters, four U.S. patents, and over 90 conference abstracts. Dr. Bhattarai’s work has earned significant recognition, including being named an AIMBE College Fellow in 2024 and receiving the Most Cited Paper Award from Elsevier’s Journal of Controlled Release in 2005. He also served as the Conference Program Chair for the 38th Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference, 2022. His current research focuses on the development of innovative biomaterials for wound healing and tissue engineering.
