David Armbruster
David received a bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from Drexel University and started
his industry career as an R&D Engineer with Kensey Nash Corp (now DSM Biomedical)
developing absorbable polymer-based implants for interventional cardiology and orthopedics.
After 5 years at KNC, he completed a master’s degree in Bioengineering from the University of
Pennsylvania, then took an R&D Engineer role with Synthes in the newly formed Biomaterials
division. With Synthes David helped develop and launch biomaterials based orthopedic
implants including calcium phosphate composite bone void fillers, absorbable polymer plates
and screws for craniomaxillofacial reconstructive surgery, and synthetic bone graft substitutes
for spinal fusion. While with Synthes he also completed a second master’s degree in biology
part time at West Chester University in Pennsylvania with a focus in microbiology. David is
currently a Senior Group Manager with Johnson & Johnson MedTech in the Orthopaedic
Biomaterials group, leading a team of engineers and scientists focused on the prevention and
treatment of implant related infection. David is a named inventor on over 20 US patents, and
