Workshop 4: On Chip Approaches in Immune Engineering for Commercialization and Translation

The FDA Modernization Act 2.0 has introduced the possibility that drug screening and clearances may be carried out and obtained from in vitro assays that faithfully indicate drug behavior that may take place in the body without the need for preclinical animal testing. In order to create such systems, groups are utilizing biomaterials to reverse engineer various tissue interfaces/barriers, organs-on-a-chip, or in more advanced bases even multi-organ/compartment models complete with flow-based exchange mimicking the circulatory system complete with cellular (e.g., immune, RBC) and non-cellular components, between compartments.
