8A: PANEL: Insights & Perspectives from NSF/NIBIB Next Generation Biomaterials

Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025
Time: 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Session Type: General Session

Description

The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact at the University of Oregon hosted an NSF and NIH-funded workshop to bring together >40 thought leaders from industry, academia, national labs, and scientific publishing to discuss major gaps and opportunities in converting advancing in biomaterials science to impactful biomedical applications. The workshop focused on four integrated “science drivers” critical to the development and translation of next generation biomaterials: (1) synthetic biology-enabled biomaterials, (2) smart/responsive biomaterials, (3) biofabrication and biointerfaces, and (4) data-driven methods for biomaterials design. This session will summarize and share insights and perspectives from this workshop and invite panelists from NSF, NIH, FDA, NIST, and industry to reflect on and share their own thoughts on the workshop outcomes. The perspectives shared in this session will be of significant interest to clinicians, academic researchers, and industry.
